Description:  The City of Overland Park Fire Dept is accepting applications for the position of FT Paramedic.  Minimum qualifications:  age 18 or older, HS diploma or equivalent, possess a valid DL, completion of a drug screen, physical & psychological evaluation, and background check. Applicants are required to have a current State of KS Certification for Mobile Intensive Care Technician, MICT Paramedic or National Registry Certification for Paramedic with requirement to obtain KS certification within 1 yr of hire date.  Starting monthly salary $3,123. The Paramedic salary structure is on a step plan reaching a monthly salary of $5,366 over a nine-year period.  Application deadline is May 16, 2008. Excellent benefit package.

You will be responsible for timely on site response, assessment and evaluation of potential organ donors including. The Referral Coordinator evaluates potential organ donors for suitability; Interacts with hospital staff to set-up optimal family approach process; Assess, in tandem with the medical staff, the care plan, neurological & hemodynamic status, and the family communication plan; Evaluates for donor designation, hemodilution and ABO confirmation; Reviews all assessments with the AOC; Requests labs per Gift of Life and hospital protocol; Requests appropriate medical interventions with the guidance of the AOC; Obtains appropriate blood specimens for serological and HLA testing and ME evaluation; Communicates with outside agencies to facilitate laboratory testing; Coordinates extra renal fly outs and Operating Room recoveries; and speaks with potential donor families and obtains legal consent and medical/social history. You will evaluate and coordinate organ and tissue referrals, discuss donation options with family members, obtain consent, allocate donated organs, increase donor referrals at local hospitals, conduct educational programs and develop relationships with health care leaders.

Successful candidates will possess at least 1-year experience in a critical care/trauma, surgical or comparable clinical environment working in the capacity of RN, CRNP, PA or certified BS/EMT-P.  Certification in ACLS or PALS preferred.
