Essential Job Duties - Teaching in the Emergency Medicine (EM) program and the Basic Instruction program as credentials allow. Will work with program coordinator to establish curriculum within the EM program; teach required courses; coordinate clinical/lab requirements for all students; assist with local/state/national certification exams for students at all levels within the EM program.
Lecturer will be responsible for understanding teaching/learning principles of EMS education, including curriculum and lesson objective development, implementation and evaluation, records retention, and review of strategies for identified student population and expectations of student performance.

Other Work/Responsibilities - Teach health classes that support the EM program; serve on departmental and division committees; maintain all professional credentials essential for the EM program, and engage in extension/service related to the mission of the department.

  • Master’s degree. Applicants without a master’s degree but with extensive experience and credentials in the field may be considered.
  • North Carolina EMT-Paramedic Level-II Instructor Certification or equivalent.

Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Responsible for medical and administrative reviews with regards to the application of pre-hospital medical emergency protocols by pre-hospital emergency medical personnel. Reviews medical care, procedures and practices of all city-credentialed out-of-hospital providers, including Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Emergency Medical Dispatchers. Performs random ePCR and field audits as directed by the EMS Medical Director. Receives and responds to complaints in order to assess the quality and consistency of service delivery. Prepares and provides training to EMS personnel, using both classroom and didactic methods. Prepares and provides ongoing call review to EMS personnel. Assists in administering regional and local tests as needed. Develops, conducts and publishes independent research. Attends meetings and/or represents the Office of the EMS Medical Director as directed. REQUIRES high school graduation, current paramedic or nursing license with 2 years of field and/or clinical experience. Preferences given to candidates with at least 5 years of pre-hospital experience (ground or flight-based); an accredited Master’s degree in public health or public administration; experience in developing, conducting and publishing research products; knowledge of quality assurance/continuous quality improvement programs; experience in database management (SQL or other database management and Microsoft Office); the National Registry of EMT-P and current Missouri Paramedic License; and, if not current, ability to become licensed in the State of Missouri.
