National Registry Board Approves Calculator Use Policy

COLUMBUS, OH — 18 January 2018 — The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Board of Directors approved a new calculator use policy at the November 2017 board meeting.

The National Registry will allow candidates taking an National Registry cognitive examination at any level to use the on screen calculator provided through Pearson VUE’s testing software. The Examinations staff is working with Pearson VUE to implement the change based on the following schedule:

  • March 2018 ‐ Paramedic
  • April 2018 ‐ AEMT
  • May 2018 ‐ EMT
  • September 2018 ‐ EMR


The mission of the National Registry of EMTs is to serve as the National EMS Certification organization by providing a valid, uniform process to assess the knowledge and skills required for competent practice by EMS professionals throughout their careers and by maintaining a registry of certification status.
