National Registry Thanks Dr. Kevin E. Mackey for His Service on the Board of Directors
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (National Registry) extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Kevin E. Mackey, MD, FACEP, NRP, for his distinguished service on the Board of Directors. Dr. Mackey recently completed his tenure as Board Chair (2023–2024) and Immediate Past Board Chair (2024–2025), marking the conclusion of his service on the Board.

During his leadership, Dr. Mackey guided the National Registry through a period of significant transformation and advancement. His tenure saw the modernization of examinations across all certification levels, including the launch of the new AEMT and Paramedic examinations and the retirement of the ALS Psychomotor Examination. He also oversaw the launch of the Longitudinal Inquiry into Fire and EMS Health (LIFE) Study, a landmark national research initiative examining long-term occupational health risks among firefighters and EMS Clinicians.

These milestones reflect Dr. Mackey’s steadfast commitment to strengthening EMS certification, advancing professional competency, and ensuring that every Clinician is prepared to deliver the highest standard of prehospital care.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine from St. Louis University School of Medicine, completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of Pittsburgh, and holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Biology from California State University.

Beginning January 1, 2026, Dr. W. Scott Gilmore will assume the position of Board Chair, and Dr. Mike McEvoy will transition into the role of Immediate Past Board Chair.
