COLUMBUS, OH — The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (National Registry), in partnership with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), is honored to present the 2025 Rocco V. Morando Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Jon Krohmer, MD, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Dr. Krohmer, a board-certified emergency and EMS physician, retired in 2022 after a distinguished 45-year career in EMS and public policy. His tenure included serving as the director of the Office of Emergency Medical Services at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), local EMS medical director in Michigan and Maryland, president of the National Association of EMS Physicians, and a senior leader with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Throughout his career, Dr. Krohmer has been instrumental in advancing EMS through initiatives such as EMS Agenda 2050, the National EMS Information System, revisions to the National EMS Education Standards, and the National EMS Scope of Practice Model. His leadership has been pivotal in strengthening the EMS community, particularly during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Morando Award is reserved for those who have truly shaped the future of EMS, and Jon Krohmer embodies that standard,” said Mike McEvoy, Chair of the National Registry Board of Directors. “Jon has dedicated his life to advancing EMS and supporting the people who make it happen every day. His vision, steady leadership, and compassion have elevated the profession and inspired generations of clinicians, leaders, and policymakers. Honoring him with this award is not only a recognition of his lifetime of service, but also a celebration of the enduring impact he has had on the health and safety of communities across our nation.

The Rocco V. Morando Lifetime Achievement Award is NAEMT’s most prestigious honor, generously sponsored by the National Registry. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a lifetime of commitment, contributions, and leadership to EMS.
